Settings: Lexicon and Snippets

Teach Steno your terms and create reusable text shortcuts.

Word Corrections

Word Corrections let you replace common transcription misses automatically.

Each entry includes:

  • misheard term
  • preferred replacement
  • scope (global or app-specific bundle ID)

Example:

  • stenoh -> Steno
  • steno kit -> StenoKit

Entries with the same term and scope are updated in place.

Text Shortcuts

Text Shortcuts (snippets) expand short triggers into longer phrases.

Each snippet includes:

  • trigger
  • expansion
  • scope (global or app-specific)

Example:

  • trigger: brb
  • expansion: I'll be right back

Snippet application occurs during transcript processing before cleanup and insertion.

Scope Rules

Scope resolution order follows context:

  • app-scoped entries apply when target app bundle ID matches
  • global entries apply across all apps

Use app scope for terms that are only valid in a specific toolchain.

Examples

Suggested setups:

  • IDE scope:
    • gpt five -> GPT-5
    • swift ui -> SwiftUI
  • global scope:
    • comma shortcut patterns for repeated signatures
    • personal names and project names

High-value customization

Even a small lexicon and 5-10 snippets can noticeably improve dictation quality and reduce cleanup time.
